FIT TO TRAIN clinicians with training in Osteopathic Manual Practice evaluate and analyze the musculoskeletal, visceral, circulatory, neurological and cranial systems. They will use their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and precision of gentle palpation to evaluate and treat the primary causes of dysfunction.

In most cases the patient has had many factors such as past injury, illness, stress and the chronicity of daily living contribute to their complaint. The result of these factors may manifest themselves locally in the body, or more frequently the symptoms are experienced far from the site of the original site of occurrence.

The Osteopathic Manual Practitioner assesses the whole body.Although treatment may be directed toward several specific areas, the effect of that treatment is often felt throughout the body.It is for this reason that the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner is also said to treat the whole body.

Traditional Osteopathy, as presented by the Canadian School of Osteopathy Manual Practice, is defined as:

A natural medicine which aims to restore function in the body by treating the causes of pain and imbalance. To achieve this goal the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner relies on the quality and finesse of his/her palpation and works with the position, mobility and quality of the tissues.

Osteopathy embraces the philosophy that the body has a natural ability to self-regulate and to heal itself. The key factor that permits this process to proceed unimpeded is the ability of the body to circulate all of its fluids, including blood, lymph, synovial fluid, digestive juices, cerebrospinal fluid, and all the other intra and extracellular fluids of the body.
