A specific type of treatment for dizziness/vertigo & balance problems along with BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). BPPV is a common cause of vertigo/dizziness caused by a loosening & displacing of small calcified crystals (otoliths) in the inner ear.
VR incorporates an exercise-based approach to reduce dizziness/vertigo & balance problems using habituation, gaze stabilization & balance training exercises to promote compensation & adaptation. BPPV is treated using repositioning maneuvers based on an assessment for the displaced otoliths.
Patients who experience dizziness, balance problems, vertigo, Meniere’s Disease, BPPV, neck-related dizziness, whiplash associated or post-concussion injuries are appropriate for VR. As dizziness/vertigo & balance problems can be caused by other medical related problems it is recommended to see a physician first to rule out other medical causes prior to beginning vestibular treatment.
